New York City NYC

With holidays just around the corner, now is the perfect time to install that home bar you have been dreaming about to take your hosting abilities to the next level. Here are our top ten tips to make sure yours is the best home bar in town.

  1. Decide how you will use the bar.  Will this be the focal point of your festive gathering or a way to retreat from the holiday madness and converse with a close friend?
  2. Do you want your bar to be stationary or portable?  If you have a fabulous New York penthouse or several rooms for entertaining, we recommend stocking up a portable trolly for versatility.
  3. Make sure you surround the bar with comfortable places to sit.  Do you want barstools or a separate seating area nearby?  Imagine your Aunt Gertrude has broken her hip, but still wants prime access to the eggnog.
  4. Consider a houseplant as an alternative to traditional holiday decor.  This way you won’t risk having holiday lights spotlighting your inability to realize that it’s March.
  5. Consider a home stereo system. Nothing kills a party like dead silence.
  6. Make sure your bar area has access to electrical outlets and a water supply. Obvious perhaps, but always worth mentioning.
  7. Take time to select appropriate glassware.  This will increase the authentic bar experience for your guests.
  8. Stock up on shakers, stirrers, muddlers. Don’t forget to have plenty of lemons, limes and ice.
  9. Learn how to make classic cocktails like martinis and manhattans.  Even if you hire a bartender, you can impress your guests by filling in when needed.
  10. It’s all in the napkins. Napkins are a great way to personalize your event and set the tone for a fabulous party.
