Richard Meier Designs New Home for E&V

Renowned architect Richard Meier and his firm partnered with Engel Völkers to create our new world headquarters, opening soon in in the Hafen-City district of Hamburg, Germany.  The mixed-use building will also include luxury condominiums and rentals.  The design is centered around a fabulous courtyard, which the firm explains is “in the tradition of grand hotel lobbies.”  This atrium will both separate the retail from the residential and provide unity for the entire building.  The interiors of the residential units were designed to maximize light and transparency while maintaining privacy.
Meier explains his nuanced approach thus, “The project accommodates various qualities of space and light, making for an architecture that is not only monumental, but visually and functionally sensitive.”  Meier’s most famous projects include the Getty Center in Los Angeles and the Barcelona Contemporary Art Museum.
